RENTAL SUBSIDY

 Rental subsidy?

What is it?

A rental subsidy, AKA a housing subsidy, is a financial assistance program provided by the government to help people or families with low income to afford housing. It is used to reduce the amount of rent that individuals or families have to pay out of pocket…making housing more affordable. Rental subsidies goal isto ensure that everyone has access to stable housing.

Who is eligible to apply?

  1. Low income households: your household income must be below a certain threshold to qualify for subsidy. In Canada, you generally have to make less than $35,000/year as a whole family or $20,000/year as an individual. Sometimes there are exceptions.

  1. Residency: Typically, you need to be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident to be eligible for rental subsidies. Some exceptions may apply.

  1. Priority Needs: Some programs evaluate and prioritize individuals or families with a demonstrated need for affordable housing, such as those facing homelessness or living in inadequate conditions.
How to apply?

You can look online for application forms, you could ask me as I always have them handy, and you could visit your nearest Community Services office or contact your local Controlled Access office. Ask any knowledgable person, or someone with experience with this, so that they can help you with your application to the rest of their ability.
